  1. On all systems, the CommuniGate Pro uses 2 folders (directories):
  2.  
  3. * the application folder containing the Server application and
  4.   supplementary files (as Web Interface page templates). Files
  5.   in this folder are not modified when the system runs. 
  6. * the "base" folder containing queued messages, account files,
  7.   settings, and other server data. 
  8.  
  9. To install the CommuniGate Pro package on a MS Windows NT/9x System:
  10.  
  11. Inst.1 Log in with the "administrator" access rights.
  12.  
  13. ------------------------------ Unpacking -------------------------
  14. Unpk.1 Use any "unzip"-type tool to unpack the
  15.        CommuniGatePro-Win32-Intel-version.zip
  16.        file. The tool should be able to use long file names. 
  17.        Some "unzip" applications have the Install option, use that
  18.        option if available.
  19.  
  20. Unpk.2 If the Install option is not available, unpack the archive.
  21.        The unpacked directory should contain the CommuniGate Pro
  22.        application folder and the Installer.exe application.
  23.        Launch the Installer.exe application. 
  24.  
  25. ---------------------------- Installation -------------------------
  26. Inst.0 Check that your system does not run any other mail
  27.        (SMTP/POP/IMAP) server application.
  28.  
  29. Inst.1 If the CommuniGate Pro software is running, the Installer
  30.        asks your premission to stop it.
  31.  
  32. Inst.2 The Installer asks you where to place the CommuniGate Pro
  33.        application folder, and where to create the "base" directory.
  34.        If a previous version of CommuniGate Pro has been already
  35.        installed, the Installer shows the locations used, and the
  36.        Install button is renamed into the Update button. 
  37.  
  38. Inst.3 Click the Install/Update button to copy the CommuniGate Pro
  39.        software into the selected location.
  40.        If the CommuniGate "base" folder does not exist, the Installer
  41.        creates an empty folder in the selected location. 
  42.        The information about the selected locations is stored in
  43.        the System Registry. 
  44.  
  45. Inst.4 On Windows NT: the CommuniGate Pro Messaging Server (the
  46.        CGStarter.exe application) is registered as a "service" that
  47.        starts automatically when the system starts. That
  48.        CGStarter.exe application starts the CommuniGate Server
  49.        itself, the CGServer.exe application.
  50.        The Installer asks if you want to start the server now. 
  51.  
  52.        On Windows 9x: the CommuniGate Pro (the CGServer.exe
  53.        application) is added to the RunServices Registry key, so
  54.        the server is started up when the system starts. Restart
  55.        the Windows 9x system to start the server.

  58. ---------------------------- Manual Start -------------------------
  59. Manu.1 You can also start the CommuniGate Pro server manually, as
  60.        a "console application", by launching the Server.exe
  61.        application using the "Command Prompt".
  62.  
  63. Init.2 If the CommuniGate Pro server is started without parameters, it
  64.        tries to create the base directory "C:\CommuniGatePro".
  65.        To specify an alternative location for the "base" directory,
  66.        use the command line argument "--CGateBase":

  68.        Server.exe --CGateBase D:\somelocation\basename
  69.  
  70. ------------------------- Initial Configuration -------------------
  71. Conf.1 Open the "{basename}\Accounts\postmaster.macnt\account.settings" file.
  72.        It contains a random password assigned to the "postmaster" account.
  73.        Find this password and remember it.
  74.  
  75. Conf.2 Connect to the server with any Web browser, using the port number
  76.        8010. In your browser, type:
  77.        http://your.server.address:8010
  78.  
  79. Conf.3 To enter the Setup, Accounts, Monitor, and  area, use the "postmaster"
  80.        username and the password from the "postmaster.macnt\account.settings" file.
  81.  
  82. Conf.4 Proceed with registering users in the Accounts section.
  83.        Use the 'postmaster' link in the Accounts section to change the postmaster
  84.        password.
